Forest of Reading
Every year, we subscribe to the Forest of Reading literacy program hosted by the Ontario Library Association (OLA). Forest of Reading helps celebrate Canadian authors, illustrators, and publishers. Best of all, children and young adult readers are the ones who determine the winners each year by voting on their favourite titles. Forest of Reading also offers virtual visits with authors, all through your public library.
Each year, we purchase books from the following Forest of Reading collections: Blue Spruce, Silver Birch, Silver Birch Express, and Yellow Cedar. Passports are available for participants in January at the library.

Just ask a staff member for a Reading Passport during your next library visit! Which passport you receive will be determined by the age and grade of the participant. From there, participants are challenged to read each of the books in their category and fill out their passport as they go. At the end of the program, participants are invited to vote on their favourite title, which will be used to help select the winner of each category.

Blue Spruce Readers must read all 10 books to qualify to vote. All other categories require that you read at least 5 of the 10 books before you qualify to vote.

Once you have completed all of the books for your category, you can submit your vote online using the form below or in person at the library. Voting for school-aged programs will be between April 1-30, 2022. The official Forest Voting Day for school-aged programs is on April 23, 2022. The Forest of Reading Festival in Toronto will be held on May 17 and May 18, 2022.
