Spring Break at the Library

It might not feel like Spring quite yet in Hastings Highlands, but that didn't stop the kids who attended our March Break programming this year from getting their hands dirty with a little gardening. Library volunteer Lesley Eden, who helps keep the library's plants healthy and thriving all year long, worked alongside staff to help the kids transplant succulents and spider plants. The real fun began when the kids unleashed their creativity on decorating their planters, layering colourful sand and picking out tiny garden accessories to make their plants feel like their own.

This year's March Break Programming had a little something for everyone. On Tuesday, we partnered with Public Health and the Metis Nation of Ontario to offer a Free Dental Clinic for babies to teens in addition to our regular storytime. Staff from the Algonquin Inòdewiziwin EarlyOn Centre also joined us, sharing information and resources with families about some of the programming they offer in the Maynooth area. On Wednesday, we got cozy with a family feature film and some popcorn. Then, on Thursday and Friday we shifted our focus to outer space, taking the opportunity to discuss the upcoming Artemis II lunar spaceflight mission as kids built their own space station and put themselves on the moon.

Of course, fun at the library isn't just limited to our scheduled programming. We have an array of fun activities available all year round, including toys, board games, video games, puzzles, colouring pages, and more. When it's not nice enough outside to play, the library is the perfect space for families to meet up with friends and get out of the house for an afternoon.
